FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I legally need HR support for my business?
There is no legal requirement to hire an external HR consultant. However, UK employment law is complex and constantly evolving.
If you employ staff, even just one person, you have legal responsibilities around contracts, policies, payroll processes, disciplinary procedures and more.
Professional HR support helps you stay compliant, reduce risk and handle people matters confidently before they escalate.
What size businesses do you work with?
We typically support small to medium-sized businesses, from sole directors employing their first team member to established organisations with growing teams.
Whether you have one employee or fifty, we tailor our advice and support to suit your size, structure and budget.
What happens if I already have policies and contracts in place?
That’s absolutely fine.
We can review your existing documentation to ensure it is:
- Legally compliant
- Up to date with current UK employment law
- Appropriate for your business structure
- Practically workable in real situations
Often, businesses have documents in place but aren’t sure if they’re still fit for purpose. A review provides clarity and peace of mind.
What is included in your HR Compliance Audit?
Our HR Compliance Audit provides a clear snapshot of where your business currently stands.
It typically includes:
- Review of contracts and key policies
- Assessment of statutory requirements
- Identification of compliance gaps
- A written report outlining findings
- Practical recommendations for next steps
The aim is not to catch you out, but to give you visibility and confidence.
Can you help with disciplinaries, grievances or difficult employee situations?
Yes.
We provide practical, hands-on support with:
- Disciplinary processes
- Grievances
- Absence management
- Performance concerns
- Redundancy situations
We guide you step by step to ensure the process is fair, documented correctly and compliant with employment law.
Do you provide ongoing HR support or just one-off advice?
We offer both.
Some businesses prefer ad-hoc support as issues arise. Others benefit from a retained HR service, where we act as your outsourced HR partner.
We’ll discuss your needs and recommend the most cost-effective and appropriate solution.
How quickly can you respond to urgent HR matters?
We understand that HR issues can arise unexpectedly and often need prompt attention.
Where possible, we prioritise urgent matters and provide timely guidance to help you take the correct next steps without delay.
How do your fees work?
We offer transparent pricing, which may include:
- Fixed-fee audits or projects
- Pay-as-you-go hourly support
- Monthly retained HR packages
Before any work begins, we clearly outline the scope and cost so you know exactly what to expect.
Do I have to sign up for 12 months?
We pride ourselves on providing a personal and local service tailored to your needs. HRM Derbyshire Peaks does not believe in tying clients up in long term, forced, contracts. We want people to keep using us because they value the relationship. As such all retainers are subject to a sixty day notice break if needed.
